Tips from Only SlimLine Hangers closet organization experts.

Sharing a closet with someone can just be a nightmare. One person is messy while the other is neat. One person’s junk tends to spill over onto the wrong side. One person might have a lot of junk to store that takes up space that could be used for your clothing. Sometimes it can just be too much to handle. Closet space is often valuable and scarce to begin with. Sharing it with someone can make it even harder to keep the closet organized and functional.

Use these tips from our closet organization experts to make life easier for you and your partner. We’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands, of scenarios and we’ve helped solve problems for them all.

One thing that helps couples to get along when sharing a closet is to have clear and impassable dividers. You should have your own space so that you can decide what arrangement works for you. I personally like to divide the closet into six individual sections. Just take the hanging bar and upper shelf right out of there and start from scratch.

Divide the closet right down the middle. One side will be for hanging clothes and one person’s shoes. The other side will be for both of your folded clothes and the other person’s shoes. I like to build steps to go from the front of the closet back to the wall on the floor of the closet. Shoes can be lined up and stacked, increasing in height from the front to the back. This keeps shoes from getting smashed or hidden behind each other. You can even install drawers under the bottom step for things like socks, underwear, swimwear, or other small items.

Then, I install two deep and tall shelves on one side of the closet. Each person is assigned a shelf. You can stack folded t-shirts or work-out wear here. Use buckets, containers, hanging baskets, or whatever you need to organize your stuff on each shelf.

On the opposite side of the closet, install a high bar and a low bar. Each of you will get a bar. Hang your clothes on the best velvet hangers on the market, SlimLine space saving hangers. These hangers are very sturdy, super slim, and have a velvet coating that keeps clothes from slipping. You will be amazed at how these slim hangers not only keep your clothes wrinkle-free, but also give you double or triple the space that you had before in your closet.
